The County Council has a series of road shows planned to allow residents to put forward roads that they feel are in need of repair. Alternatively residents can email improvemyroad@surreycc.gov.uk

Cllr Julie Morris, member of Epsom & Ewell Local Committee (the joint borough/county group which deals with highways issues), says

"I am not sure I can take this initiative without a degree of cynicism when one considers there are elections in just over 6 months. We have had years of underfunding and currently have a backlog of work in our borough. We don't yet have proper information on road maintenance which should have been completed last year and are dubious about the chances of completing this year's schedule.

The county say their new approach involves planning road maintenance over five years, instead of the usual 12 months. This will provide better value for money because materials can be bought in bulk, meaning more roads can be improved for less money. We shall see.

"I do urge everyone to support the road show and use the email address, but please copy in your representative on the Local Committee to make sure these roads are logged properly via the proper channels and can then be progressed through the right channels" added Cllr Morris
