900% increase in parking charges "to make the system fairer".
Charges for parking permits are set to rise by a mind-numbing 900% early next year, under plans revealed by Surrey County Council. A county council spokesman described the record increase as designed "to make the system fairer."
Under the plans approved this week by the Conservative run County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport, residents living in Controlled Parking Zones will have to pay £50 for their first permit and £75 for a second one. They can also have 30 one-day visitor's permits costing a further £60.
Currently a parking permit for one of Epsom & Ewell's three CPZ's is priced at £5 - though in practice none have been issued for several years due to confusion between the borough and county councils, for which each blames the other.
