Appeals Lodged after Planning Permission Refused

2 Aug 2010

Two appeals against planning refusal relating to town centre properties have been lodged. The first relates to student accommodation in Temple Road, where a 3-storey extension was refused permission by the Planning Committee.

The second relates to University for the Creative Arts which has built new student accommodation off Heathcote Road at its Epsom Campus. Planning permission was sought to build a third storey to accommodate 11 more students. Local residents will remember the long debate relating to the original permission to replace Wilberforce Court. Those living nearby were concerned with the possibility of anti-social behaviour and management issues of the new student block - Lib Dem councillors suggested that access via Heathcote Road was not actually necessary and that, for security, access should only be via the UCA main campus entrance. The ruling RA group voted against this suggestion.

The results of the Appeal will not be known for some months. Contact Cllr Alison Kelly for the latest situation.
