Borough Asked to Oppose County's Parking Charges
Two Liberal Democrat councillors will put a Motion to Council on Tuesday 15th February asking the entire borough council to oppose the county council's plans to charge for on-street parking.
Cllr Jonathan Lees will propose that:
"This council agrees that the county council's proposals to charge for on-street parking near small shopping parades and outside doctors' surgeries are not sustainable as they will threaten the economic viability of small retailers and businesses in and around Epsom and Ewell and potentially target the vulnerable."
The Motion will be seconded by Cllr Alison Kelly who represents Town ward, where the county's proposals will affect Upper High Street and Waterloo Road. On-street parking in these locations is currently free for 30 minutes, with no return within 2 hours.
Normally a Motion presented to the council is referred onward to a committee for debate. As the above requires a simple vote in support or against, it is likely to be debated on the night itself.
Members of the public are welcome to watch proceedings from the Public Gallery which is open at 7.30pm.
