At last the Council will do something

For years Epsom has had arguably the worst display of Christmas decorations and lights in Surrey. At last this looks set to change.

After Epsom & Ewell Lib Dems pledged in their election manifesto to improve upon things, a councillor from the Residents' Party took it upon himself to try and raise some money for 2007 decorations. Now the whole of the Residents' Party has agreed to spend up to £10,000 to match contributions from businesses. Cllr Nigel Pavey (Lib Dem, Stamford) is taking the matter forward for discussion in the Epsom & Ewell Business Partnership and has already put an item on the agenda of their next meeting on Tuesday 11th March 2008.

Cllr Pavey said "I am delighted that at long last the Council is going to do something and not just fob us off with their comments that Christmas is the responsibility of local businesses."
