Chief Executive of Borough Council in Epsom Hospital

14 Oct 2008

The Chief Executive of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, David Smith, is currently in Epsom Hospital undergoing tests.

No further details on his condition are available, but he is likely to be off work for several weeks. Arrangements have been made within the Council to ensure the smooth running of all divisions and the continuation of Council services over the next few weeks.

John Turnbull, Director of Finance has said "The thoughts of all our staff, Members and volunteers are with David and his family at this difficult time."

Councillor Julie Morris, leader of the Lib Dem group of councillors, said "David is so much a part of everything which goes on in the council. We are all concerned to hear of his illness and hope he will be back as soon as possible, fighting fit again."

"We don't know at the moment how long his recovery will take and anticipate that councillors of all parties can discuss and agree the best way of covering his absence, so that the workings of the council will continue to function as smoothly as possible."

"Our thoughts are with David and his family."
