Councillor Kelly achieves a result for tenants and the environment
Unlike in the private sector people who move into a housing association property find all carpets and white goods are removed. This was raised as a concern by 2 local charities especially as other boroughs e.g. Mole Valley offers tenants the option to keep carpets. At the first opportunity Cllr Alison Kelly asked if Epsom & Ewell would work with the local housing associations to consider leaving the carpets subject to a cleaning and inspection and similarly white goods so the residents can benefit from a better furnished house at the start of their tenancy. Cllr Kelly is pleased to report that officers were asked to contact the local housing associations and meetings have been held so that this proposal can be put into action. This is a win for those who are most impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and is a good move on environmental grounds.
