Councillors' delight at investment in Epsom leisure facilities

Lib Dem councillors in Epsom are delighted that the council has agreed to upgrade leisure facilities in the Epsom area. A meeting of the Leisure Committee on 29th January agreed to spend £40,000 repairing and renewing tennis courts and boundary fencing at Alexandra and Court Recreation Grounds, £48,000 on a new hard-surface 5-a-side pitch also at Alexandra and £100,000 on a new playground in Rosebery Park.

Cllr Jonathan Lees, leader of the Lib Dem group of councillors, said "I'm particularly pleased about the new pitch at Alexandra because the grass pitches are worn out and have become mud-baths." The whole boundary fence to the courts at Alexandra Rec will be replaced and the fence at Court Rec will be renewed and repaired as necessary. Cllr Julie Morris added "The playground at Rosebery Park is almost the last to be done in the borough and is desperately in need of relocation and modern play equipment. I've been receiving complaints about it for years. At long last the children living near the town centre will have somewhere good to use."

Other projects supports included an extension to seating capacity in Epsom Playhouse and the possible upgrading of The Warren and the Wells playground within two years.
