Councillors Deserve More Say on how the Council Spends Money

Meeting
Councillors should help develop spending plans, not rubber-stamp them.

Every four years Epsom & Ewell Borough Council spends about £10m on different projects : this is known as the 4-year Capital Programme. The budget is apportioned annually against projects considered necessary or appropriate for that year.

Lib Dem councillors (with verbal support from councillors of other parties) want greater opportunity to contribute to early drafts of the Capital Programme. They have put a Motion to a meeting of the full council which will take place on 19th February. The subject of how the Capital Programme is drawn up and whether any changes to the process are appropriate, will then be discussed at a future meeting of the Strategy & Resources Committee. Details will be posted on this website.
