Elaine Britten stands down as councillor

16 Jan 2009

Lib Dem Elaine Britten has decided that for reasons of ill-health she can no longer continue as councillor for Court ward. A by-election to fill the vacancy will be held on 26th February.

Elaine was first taken ill last summer whilst abroad, was then in hospital in the UK which was followed by an operation. There have been further visits to hospital during 2008. Elaine has issued the following statement to the residents of her ward "The past year has been really difficult for me. My work and personal circumstances have changed and I've had some serious health problems which are still unresolved. I don't feel I can continue as your councillor and hope you will understand."

Cllr Julie Morris, leader of the Lib Dem group said "We are really sorry to lose Elaine but do understand that when your health is at stake, other commitments become very difficult. She's been a champion of causes such as Horton Chapel and helped numerous residents with social and housing issues. We shall be hoping to replace Elaine with an equally qualified and dedicated councillor to serve the remaining two years of the term of office."
