Extinction Rebellion Comes to Epsom
From local resident Sarah Clayton, via Nextdoor.com
"We have now formed a small Epsom XR group, to keep building the movement. Extinction Rebellion is calling for change, radical change - in the way our politics, economics and society works - in order to cut carbon emissions and attempt to keep the planetary climate stable enough for life as we know it.
There will be a meeting at Glyn Hall, Ewell, on Tuesday 22nd October, at 7.30pm for anyone interested in joining. (It does NOT mean having to sign up to marching the streets, blocking roads, or doing anything illegal at all!).
We all need to think how we can peacefully, sensibly, responsibly start getting the changes we need, in taking effective action on carbon emissions and climate breakdown. Do come along on the 22nd, and find out more.
Five of us from the Epsom XR group attended the protests this week, in Whitehall and Trafalgar Square. Others will be going up again later in the week. None of us is doing anything illegal, or being "arrestable". We are NOT "un-cooperative crusties" or particularly radical (or left-wing!) but responsible citizens who would more accurately be described as "middle England" - with deep concern for the future welfare of humanity and the living world, trying to reduce the damage we are doing, and the risks that our children and grandchildren face."
