Fighting to save the 467 bus

3 Mar 2006

The threat to the 467 bus route was discussed at the recent meeting of SCC's Epsom & Ewell Local Committee. They unanimously passed a motion proposed by Cllr Colin Taylor calling upon SCC's Executive to ensure that local residents in the West Ewell and Ruxley areas can continue to access the various essential services in Ewell village and Epsom town by public transport.

Transport for London (TfL) are proposing to discontinue the 467 bus route. Representations were made to the Committee by a spokesperson for the local Residents Association on behalf of Surrey residents who live in the Chessington Road, Epsom area. The discontinuation of this service would prevent local residents from accessing essential services and local amenities such as:

  • Health centres
  • Libraries
  • Schools
  • Shops
  • Rainbow Leisure Centre
  • Railway Stations

The Local Committee asked the Executive to consider either modifying one of the other existing bus services to include Chessington Road, or else take over responsibility from TfL for that part of the 467 service that runs within Surrey.
