Fraud warning to residents

9 Nov 2009

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is advising residents to be on their guard following reports of possible fraudulent activity in the Borough. According to information received by the Council, telephone calls are being made to residents advising them their Council Tax banding has been changed and they are to receive rebates backdated to 1 April 1993.

The callers give details such as resident birth dates and ask for bank details claiming that they can then make payments direct into residents' accounts. The Council advises anyone who receives a call of this nature not to give any details over the phone and to contact the police immediately on 0845 125 2222.

The Council does not notify residents of Council Tax changes by telephone. If there are any changes to your bill, you will receive adjustment information in writing through the post.

If you are concerned in anyway or wish to confirm any changes to your Council Tax, please contact the Council Tax section on 01372 732000.
