Have Your Say on Licensed Premises in Epsom Town Centre
The borough council's Licensing Committee has agreed that Epsom town centre is already saturated with licensed premises. The council is now asking for views on the planned Cumulative Impact Policy (CIP) for the town centre area which would give them more power over licensed premises.
A CIP has long been the aim of Town ward councillors and campaigners. Tony Axelrod, who lives in the town centre, has been liaising with other town centre local residents on the problems emanating from various clubs in the centre, not only noise and vibration, but also anti-social behaviour associated with dispersal of young people when the clubs close.
The Licensing Committee agreed that the town centre was already saturated with licensed premises and that this concentration impacted on the area, creating public nuisance, crime and disorder and that a Cumulative Impact Policy was required. They agreed that the area to be covered by the CIP was Epsom High Street, including Derby Dquare and Waterloo Road to the junction with Station Approach.
Implementation of such a CIP is subject to consultation with the police, the fire and rescue authority, representatives of local holders of premises licensed, representatives of club premises certificates, representatives of local holders of personal licensed and representatives of business in the CIP area.
Local residents do not have to be consulted apparently! Do you support a CIP?
