Maurice Giles, a local nurseryman and gardener was also a member of the Ewell Rotary Club. He has recently passed away after many years of working from his home and nursery in East Street, Epsom. His son Adrian has been running a similar service from Chessington Garden Centre for the past few years.

Maurice helped with Herald of Spring plant and floral display arrangements for many years. He was in regular contact with some council officers until he fell ill.

Local Rotary clubs are holding a tree planting ceremony in his memory which will shortly take place in Nonsuch Park with a service conducted by the Rev Simon Talbott.

Maurice will be missed by many long-standing employees of the Borough Council and local people who had their mowers and gardens serviced by him. His business followed on from that of his father. It is pleasing to see that a similar landscaping and garden machinery service is still being offered by family members, albeit from a different location.
