Keeping Election Promises

4 Apr 2008

Epsom & Ewell's Lib Dem councillors have honoured the pledge in their election manifesto not to support council "freebies".

The Civic Reception held at Bourne Hall in March is a function which includes dinner and to which representatives from local organisations, councillors and their partners are invited. Lib Dem councillors and their partners paid the £25 per head cost of the event. Cllr Nigel Pavey presented the Borough Treasurer with a cheque for £200 which will be credited back to the Civic & Democratic budget.

The next civic event is the dinner after the election of the new Mayor in May. This dinner is likely to cost £20 per head. Lib Dem councillors have not made a final decision on attendance but will be paying for themselves if they do decide to attend.
