Langley Vale re-think

13 Apr 2005

It's back to the drawing board for Langley Vale Road traffic calming. Councillors from all parties representing this Epsom Downs village (including Woodcote ward by-election winner Lionel Blackman) have jointly agreed to ask SCC highways engineers to re-consider their plans.

This follows representations from the Epsom Racehorse Trainers' Association and a petition from 250 local residents.

Everyone's aim is to improve road safety on Langley Vale Road for all road users, including racehorses. However, the racehorse trainers are concerned about the effects of the proposed "road tables" on their horses.

The local residents are concerned about plans to narrow the mouths of Grosvenor Road and Rosebery Road. Although designed to cut the speed of traffic wishing to turn into the village, local people fear it would make their roads less safe - and adversely affect trade at the corner shop, who say they would have problems with deliveries by lorry if the road is narrowed.
