Lap Dancing - Council's policy doesn't reflect views of Members

Lap Dancing - Legal Position
The current legal position

At a recent Council meeting, Cllr Alison Kelly asked for confirmation of the Council's position in relation to the licensing of lap-dancing establishments, without prejudice to the Council's duty and obligation to consider any current application according to current rules.

In response it was confirmed that the Council:

  • has a current Policy based on government requirements and not on the individual views of Members;
  • has written to the government calling for changes to the current licensing law;
  • welcomes the Home Secretary's announcement of a proposed change in the law.

It was ruled as not appropriate to discuss this issue in detail, because of a current licensing application.
