Lib Dem Survey Results

6 Jan 2011

Top line analyses of 100 of the first of the FOCUS newsletter surveys returned have produced some worthy results and tremendous ideas from local residents.

No surprise is that Low Council Tax, Epsom Hospital, Green Belt and Recycling came at the top of most people's list of priorities, all rated as "very important" or "important". It is hoped that the February edition of FOCUS which is distributed to a large section of our borough, will give more detailed results on a ward-by-ward basis. There were numerous commendations that the survey had been conducted at all : clearly local residents like to be asked for their views.

The following is a selection of the hundreds of ideas which were put forward by local people, some innovative and excellent, some very sensible but terribly complex to implement and some bordering on the bizarre and included for your amusement! At the end of February, once all surveys have been analysed and results recorded, your Lib Dem councillor would be happy to email a full list of the comments made by survey respondents.

  • Close down nightclubs and save money on wasted police time and clearing up the filth the next morning
  • Cut salaries by 10-15% for all council employees to mirror private sector
  • Timed parking restrictions e.g. 12-2pm
  • Let us know how council tax is spent on non-legal requirements
  • Only allow big developers one plan
  • Have a special day for those in Headley Court
  • Free collection of garden waste
  • Why can't a new hospital be built on the car park at the back
  • Get together with other authorities when purchasing stationery and consumables
  • Cut some disabled bays - and my wife is disabled - waste of money
  • Re-use Xmas lights and swap with other boroughs
  • No parking restrictions within 20ft of a fire hydrant
  • Parking fines for residents who have drives and garages but who park in the road
  • Do we need a Mayor?
  • Make fast food outlets pay to clean the streets

If you have a survey and are intending to return this, please do so by 15th January.
