Lib Dems get Cross-Party Decision on Hospital

29 Jul 2007

A meeting of the Borough Council on Tuesday 24th July resulted in the first truly cross-party decision on the future of Epsom Hospital.

Lib Dem Cllr Jonathan Lees proposed a "motion" to the Council calling for the immediate resignation of the Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust Board. He was seconded by Cllr Nigel Pavey, then the wording was modified, first by a Residents' Party Councillor and then by a Conservative, after which the whole Council voted in favour.

Cllr Lees said "I now have a great deal more confidence that the Council can work together to save our Hospital rather than spend time scoring points for their political party. We all want to save the Hospital and I've never really understood why we couldn't all work together on the matter. Let's hope it continues because the Hospital should not be a political debate within Epsom"
