Mayor to take Time Out

1 Feb 2009

The Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Cllr Alan Winkworth, is to stand down from office for a few weeks, amidst coverage in the local and national press that he has been unfit to officiate at public functions.

Leader of the Liberal Democrat group of councillors, Julie Morris said "The Mayor has clearly not been well. Perhaps it's not appropriate that others judge whether or not he has been drunk at these meetings, because that's only something the Mayor himself will know. What is clear, however, is that he's been unable to conduct himself in the way expected of a Mayor and he needs to take some time off in order to return to form. We wish him well."
