At a special council meeting RA councillors rejected free swimming

The Residents Association councillors have voted unanimously to once again veto acceptance of the government's "Free Swimming" scheme for under 16's and over 60's as far as Epsom & Ewell is concerned.

Although council officers and the Rainbow Centre operators confirmed that the cost to the Council would be far less than originally feared, they opposed spending any money on the scheme.

Lib Dem opposition leader Cllr Julie Morris commented that enough money could have been found, but the ruling RA group did not have the political will to support the scheme. RA councillors had not thought it necessary to get the views of local residents on this issue.
