Parking Anarchy

How long must Epsom suffer?

Cllr. Colin Taylor will question RA party leaders at next Tuesday's meeting of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council (EEBC), about their plans for enforcement of yellow lines now the police traffic warden has left. Surrey Police handed over responsibility for on-street parking on April 1st.

EEBC have agreed with Surrey County Council (SCC) to carry enforcement on their behalf, under DPE (Decriminalised Parking Enforcement) arrangements, yet at this month's Local Committee meeting Martyn Williams, SCC's Local Transportation Director, claimed DPE will not start until April 2005.

Colin is to ask the Chairman of the Environment Committee, Cllr David Wood (RA), about this date and the interim arrangements for dealing with illegal parking on yellow lines until DPE starts.

He says "I have been pressing for confirmation of EEBC plans for over a year - since long before the last Borough Council election. The RA party seemed unwilling or unable to decide whether EEBC or SCC should deal with on-street parking. Now residents must suffer up to a year of anarchy due to RA dither. Yes, there have been problems in the negotiations with SCC, but other parts of Surrey have gone ahead this April, why hasn't EEBC?"
