Predictable Labour Tactics in Court By-election

15 Feb 2009

When the latest FOCUS newsletter predicted a personal attack on the Lib Dem candidate from the Labour party, they were absolutely right!

The Labour party have run true to form and criticised Julia Kirkland for her role as chair of governors of a local school, claiming she "prioritises Clarendon Park children". Of course, catchment areas for local schools are set by the Conservative-controlled County Council which is in charge of education in the borough of Epsom & Ewell - indeed across the whole of Surrey.

The latest leaflet from the Labour Party, who were not circulating any newsletters until they knew of a by-election, also claims Lib Dem councillors have a poor attendance record at meetings and are never seen. They appear to have missed the fact that monthly councillor surgeries are held at the Concorde Hall and the Longmead Centre, plus a "walkabout" surgery in specific streets takes place and covers the whole ward roughly once each year - although strangely they are now promising to do exactly the same thing!

Perhaps the Labour party representatives are out of touch because they have little contact with anyone actually living in the ward?
