Ward councillors have arranged a public meeting for Thursday 2nd August at 7.30 pm at the Phoenix Club: there was every indication that a planning officer and the planning applicants would attend.

Cllr Jonathan Lees, leader of the Lib Dem Opposition, issued the following statement at 21.30 hours on Sunday 29th July :

"We've arranged these meetings in the past when there has been a lot of public interest in a subject. Dame Annis Barn, Wells House and Upper High Street to name but three major planning applications where we organised open meetings. This time the council won't allow a planning officer to come and explain the process and answer questions. It's no surprise that the applicants have decided not to come either. Meetings such as this are a really important way of involving the public in decision-making, giving local residents the opportunity to comment directly to officers and applicants. I will be asking questions as to why there is an apparent change of policy from the Residents Party - which claims to listen to local residents!"

The meeting will go ahead as planned.
