RA Run Borough Council Wastes Money - Again
With just two complaints about bonfires in two years, the borough council looks set to waste thousands of pounds on a consultation of people who live near allotment sites.
Cllr Julie Morris, member of the Allotments Forum and Leisure Committee, which will discuss the subject on 22nd October is a plotholder herself. She said "I couldn't quite believe what I was reading - that the council wants to consult thousands of households around 9 allotment sites to see if there is a bonfire nuisance, when the evidence says that there is not"
Two complaints of bonfires have been recorded in two years from allotments sites. Over 50 complaints were recorded in just one of those years of bonfires from ordinary homes and other sites.
"There are 150 properties bordering the Alexandra Road site and there are 9 sites. Second class postage is 50p. It's not difficult to do the maths. There is council staff time in preparing the letter and evaluating the responses. The whole process is quite ridiculous when we are supposed to be saving money. The evidence suggests that there isn't a problem, so why jizz up residents to suggest otherwise?" added Cllr Morris
