Special Council Meeting will discuss Freedom of the Borough issue

17 Dec 2009

A meeting of the council of Epsom & Ewell voted to hold a Special Council Meeting in 2010 to discuss whether or not to bestow Freedom of the Borough on the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment based in Guildford.

Lib Dem councillors voted that the Special Council Meeting should take place. Other opposition parties also voted in support. Most of the ruling Residents' Party voted against holding the meeting but with a couple of exceptions and abstentions, they lost the vote.

Epsom & Ewell Lib Dems have been running a petition for some weeks concerning the needs of our forces overseas. Epsom & Ewell has one military unit based in the borough (in Ewell) : the 135 Topographic Squadron RE (V). Contact Cllr Jonathan Lees for further information or email your local councillor with your views on the Freedom of the Borough issue.
