Recycling plastic bottles and cardboard reduces residual waste going to landfill

Last week's article on trying to improve the recycling facilities available in flats has already seen the Lib Dems clock up two successes!

Cllr Dave Morgan has arranged with the council for improved recycling in Court House Mansions, off Pound Lane. Cllr Julie Morris has similarly arranged for a large plastic bottle/cardboard recycling bin to go into Alexandra Mansions from this week. Part of the "deal" for flats can be that residual waste (green bin rubbish) can continue to be collected weekly, rather than fortnightly. Collecting cooked food waste from flats can be difficult and is problematical, because dumping cooked waste on top of that from other flats is not popular, understandably.

With 189 blocks of flats still without full recycling, Cllr Morris said "There's still a long way to go, but it's a good start. Councillors will be receiving a full list of flats needing attention in the next couple of weeks, when we can hopefully reduce this list much further."
