Surrey Lib Dems publish Record of Success

10 Aug 2008

Surrey County Council's Lib Dem councillors, which include Colin Taylor representing Epsom & Ewell SW Division, have published their achievements over the past couple of years. SW Division takes in the Epsom wards of Town, Stamford and part of Court.

  • More roads resurfaced after pressure was put on the County Council : not enough but a step in the right direction
  • Persuaded the County Council to tackle flooding by identifying problem areas and improving road drainage, plus the creation of a budget for flood prevention schemes
  • Led a campaign against closure of youth centres over which the Tory administration later backed down and youth centres were retained
  • Opposed cuts to youth workers and a recruitment freeze
  • Led opposition to the proposals to close a number of libraries : again the Tory administration did a u-turn
  • Pressed the County to work with Boroughs to increase waste reduction
  • Asked the County to dispose of waste in the most environmentally friendly way - and anaerobic digestion and composting is now under consideration
  • Pressed the County to lead on Surrey's impact on climate change and two years on the Tory administration has produced a strategy on climate change
