Tories Under Attack

Epsom's Tory councillors were subjected to attack from all sides at a council meeting held on 28th April.

Comments were made about the Audit Commission's recent One Star Rating for Conservative-controlled Surrey County Council, followed up by a question on how, if at all, the borough might want to compensate for the failings of SCC's children's services and their poor performance on roads maintenance. There was also a quip about a Tory councillor seeking to misrepresent his elected status, and comments about recent literature which stated that the Liberal Democrats had "pushed through" a 3.9% increase in council tax, which were completely untrue. (The Lib Dems had proposed a 2.9% council tax increase, with reduction in mayoral budgets and a freeze on IT expenditure).

During a confidential item at the end of the meeting, a Tory councillor was not permitted to speak and the meeting was immediately closed.
