What Steps are the Council Taking to Protect the Well-Being of Town Centre Residents?

20 Apr 2012

That's the question being posed by Liberal Democrat councillors to a meeting of the full Council on Tuesday 24th April.

Epsom town centre where there's a concentration of pubs and clubs

Whilst the local authority has a responsibility to balance the interests of business, including those operating at night time, with the needs of an increasing number of residents who live within the town centre, the Lib Dems have previously exposed inconsistencies within the Licensing and Planning systems relating to hours of operation.

Now it seems that food outlets offering "Late Night Refreshment" are opening until 3.00am sometimes against planning consent.

The formal question is about what enforcement action is being or can be taken. The answer will be published on this website next week.
