Dear friends, here is our first monthly Update for 2022 covering events during January including some nice words about our local MP!
Back in June 2021 the Epsom & Walton Downs Conservators (run by the Residents Association and the Racing Industry) decided to seek permission from Surrey County Council (SCC) to close the access road to the Top Car Park on the Downs from the late afternoon until midday the following day. This seemed to be a decision made in haste due to the vastly increased numbers of visitors during the various lock-downs.
Dear friends, with best wishes for a peaceful Christmas and healthy New Year, here is our last Update for 2021 covering events during December (well, up to 23rd December, hoping all is quiet over the holidays).
Grateful residents have written to thank recently elected Lib Dem county councillor Harry Boparai for his work in helping to resolve two longstanding issues in his Division, Sunbury Common & Ashford Common.
124 fully qualified GPs are over 55, 24% of total number in Surrey Heartlands area that covers most of Surrey. Lib Dems warn of GP "retirement time bomb" facing local communities with almost 1 in 4 heading towards retirement age. Will Forster, Leader of Surrey Lib Dems is calling for the Government to set out a clear plan to recruit more GPs in NHS workforce plan. The Liberal Democrats have warned of a "GP retirement time bomb," after new research by the party reveals almost one in four family doctors are nearing retirement age.
It is good news for Surrey residents that thanks to Lib Dem pressure the County Council seem to have changed their mind about cutting future expenditure on highway maintenance.
