All Liberal Democrats hoping to stand as Candidates in next year's elections to Epsom & Ewell Borough Council should apply to the local party by 16th October. "There is still time for new names to be added to our list of Approved Candidates, ahead of our local party's AGM on 9th November", says campaign manager Cllr Julie Morris. "However we do need to allow time for our approval and selection procedures".
Tributes have been paid to Sir Cyril Smith, former Lib Dem MP for Rochdale, who died on Friday. Party Leader Nick Clegg said "Cyril Smith was a larger-than-life character and one of the most recognisable and likeable politicians of his day. He was a true Liberal, dedicated to his constituency, always showing great passion and determination. Cyril was a colourful politician who kept the flame of Liberalism alive when the party was much smaller than it is today."
Amidst much heckling from the public gallery, a planning application to allow night working at Epsom Station has been deferred. The Developers of the West Park former hospital site have announced that, despite extensive marketing, the requirement in the borough council's agreed planning brief to develop the former Administration Building as an hotel and conference centre has failed to attract any interest from potential operators.
